Felline Societa Agricola
While Puglia and Sicily vie for top spot as Italy’s largest wine producers, until recently both were regarded as bulk wine producers who sent tanker loads of cheap and cheerful reds and whites north to plump out the wines of more fashionable regions. That’s all been changing during the past decade or two thanks to people like Gregory Perucci whose Accademia dei Racemi gathers together Puglia’s most passionate wine producers to make quality wines from local grape varieties. Racemi, based in the Manduria, now offers wines from half a dozen distinctively different vineyards and is widely regarded as one of the region’s leading producers of quality wines, many of which are a match for those of more established regions like Tuscany and Piedmont.
