Bouchard Finlayson
This boutique winery in the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven on Earth) Valley near Harmanus in the Western Cape is one of South Africa’s top wineries. Owner/winemaker Peter Finlayson reckons that Pinot Noir is the most demanding and testing of all grapes and his success with it defines Bouchard Finlayson. Peter doesn’t compromise. “Pinot Noir is like an opera,” he says. “When its great its pure seduction. There’s no middle road.” The Valley’s cool ocean-influenced climate allows him to make classic Pinot Noirs; rich, long and with velvety tannins that make then excellent wines to cellar.
